Greg Oden was thought to be down to the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers. But Saturday, the former No. 1 pick met with the Boston Celtics.
Celtics GM Danny Ainge told the Boston Herald that the meeting was informational for both sides.
"We wanted to talk to Greg to see where he is physically," Ainge told the newspaper. "We're just finding out as much as we can and letting Greg know what we have here. He's not ready to play now, but he's someone who's very interesting."
Oden has undergone three microfracture surgeries -- the last in February 2012. He hasn't played a game since December 5, 2009.
The former Ohio State Buckeye averaged 11.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 21 games during the 2009-10 season.
Doesn't sound like a signing is imminent. But Oden's return to the NBA next season appears inevitable.
