The Rock loses the WWE Championship to John Cena, won't appear on Raw due to injury

The Rock won't be on Raw tonight after suffering an injury during his WWE Championship loss to John Cena at WrestleMania.

The Rock tweeted: "In the middle of last nights Wrestlemania match I tore my abdomen & adductor muscles off the bone. Just part of the job. But as we know it's all about #JustBringIt. WWE Universe THANK YOU for all the love & well wishes. Means everything to me. #LeaveItAllInTheRing."

The Wrestling Observer reported that WWE's writers were in a panic after Dwayne Johnson no-showed and left to re-write Monday's show, which was supposed to include an angle between Rock and Brock Lesnar to tease their potential WrestleMania 30 main event match.

John Cena beats CM Punk, gets WrestleMania main event with The Rock (full match video)

CM Punk and John Cena had one of the best matches ever on Raw. WWE called it an "instant classic," and that's no hyperbole. It's that good, even with Cena falling on his head during a hurracarrana. Cena won, so he's going on to face The Rock for the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania.

WWE has done wrestling fans a solid and posted the full-length match on YouTube. Watch it in its bad-ass entirety after the jump.

CM Punk piledrives John Cena, upsets Vince McMahon (video)

CM Punk and John Cena put on a pay-per-view-caliber match to close Monday Night Raw. Punk and Cena kicked out of each other's finishers. They fought out of submission holds. Cena even survived a piledriver, supposedly a banned move in WWE (and one Cena shouldn't be taking with his history of neck issues). More on that in a second.

The Dr. of Thuganomics attempted a hurracarrana, which he should never do because he's too jacked up, and finished the Straight Edge Superstar with an Attitude Adjustment. So it's official: Cena will face The Rock for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXIX.

This was a helluva match, but one Vince McMahon wasn't happy about.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported (subscription required) that McMahon "blew a stack" over Punk and Cena's use of the piledriver. Since we're talking about Cena and Punk, nothing is likely to happen to the guys.

Since the piledriver is so rarely seen, the use of it was special. This was a great match, and one worth seeing in its entirety. Here's the end sequence.

The Rock unveils new WWE Championship belt (photo)

The Rock unveiled the new WWE Championship on Raw to replace the non-spinning spinner belt.

On the plus side, at least it wasn't the Brahma Bull belt. But it wasn't the winged eagle title that I loved growing up. It was the rumored new belt that was talked about in late August (see a photo of it after the jump).

This photo was uploaded to Twitter with the caption: “Annealing aluminum for a WWE Championship belt.”

John Cena vs. CM Punk next week on Raw: Winner gets the WrestleMania match against The Rock

Next week's main event on Raw is set: John Cena vs. CM Punk with the winner getting the WWE Championship match against The Rock at WrestleMania.

Quick thoughts: WWE is building to a hot match with a major stipulation on next week's Raw. After tonight, The Rock isn't scheduled to be on the show until March 4. If you're expecting The Undertaker to show up, next week sounds about right. No way Cena loses. I'm not a fan of the Royal Rumble winner (or Elimination Chamber winner) putting the WWE Championship shot on the line. There's no good reason to devalue the meaning of those pay-per-view matches.

The Rock retains, will defend against John Cena at WrestleMania 29

The main event for WrestleMania 29 is set: The Rock will defend the WWE Championship against John Cena in a rematch of last year's "once in a lifetime" dream match.

The Rock defeated CM Punk int he main event of Sunday's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. The win didn't come without a bit of controversy. Punk had the Brahma Bull pinned, but the referee was knocked out. A second ref ran in but injured his ankle and rolled out of the ring.

Paul Heyman grabbed the championship and slid it to Punk, who tried to hit The Rock, who moved just in time for the Second City Saint to smack the one-time mastermind of Extreme Championship Wrestling. The Rock then gave Punk a Rock Bottom and pinned him for the win.

The Great One going over was the right move, setting up the biggest money match (outside of Rock vs. Brock Lesnar) with John Cena, who will likely get his win back at MetLife Stadium.

The Rock featured in trailer for new TNT drama The Hero (video)

The former home of WCW Monday Nitro will broadcast a show featuring The Rock this summer.

The Brahma Bull is part of an "epic new competition series" called The Hero. Not a lot of details here -- other than The Rock ripping off several T-shirts.

Even a decade after the final episode of Nitro and the end of the Monday Night Wars, it's odd seeing a WWF talent on TNT.

Brock Lesnar versus The Rock match planned for either SummerSlam or WrestleMania XXX

A rematch of The Rock and Brock Lesnar's SummerSlam 2002 match is "on the drawing board" for some point, according to the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer.

"Rock and Brok is going to happen ... unless something changes," Meltzer said on the latest edition of Observer Radio (subscription required and encouraged).

"Presumably meaning next year," Co-host Bryan Alvarez said.

"Yeah, either SummerSlam or 'Mania or whatever," Meltzer said. "That's like the next big match after 'Mania this year is, whenever it's going to happen, Rock and Brock."

So we finally get another dream match, a little more than a decade later, and it's a big one. I would have pegged a Brock-Rock match as the biggest money match WWE has available, but the company appears to be headed for a rematch of last year's John Cena-Rock match.
The hype video for the match was a thing of beauty. Lesnar won his first championship, the Undisputed Championship, in '02.

CM Punk gives The Rock the GTS, steals the WWE Championship (video)

Raw ended with a hot angle: CM Punk giving The Rock the Go To Sleep and walking off with the WWE Championship on the last show before the Elimination Chamber.

The angle started with story time with The Rock, only to be interrupted by Punk and Paul Heyman. This, of course, led to a brawl between the Second City Saint and the People's Champion. The Brahma Bull busted Punk with a spinebuster and bounced off the ropes for the People's Elbow, but Paul Heyman ripped Rock, leading to the GTS.

The crowd was hot, and the Punk-Rock rematch this Sunday has a big fight feel.

Cobra Special Forces will be recruiting at WWE Elimination Chamber (video)

Cobra will be making a recruiting trip to WWE's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in New Orleans on February 17. Seriously. The terrorist organization is scheduled to be there (watch Cobra's recruiting video after the jump) -- and so is Roadblock.

Uh, I mean The Rock, who will be defending the WWE Championship against know Cobra operative CM Punk.

I really hope this doesn't turn into one of those movie tie-ins like Robocop, Chucky or David Arquette.

WWE ranks The Rock's 10 biggest wins, and No. 1 is an odd choice (video)

WWE counted down The Rock's 10 biggest wins, and the No. 1 match is kinda shocking. Was it Rock vs. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin? No. Rock vs. Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania? No. John Cena? Nah.

The No. 1 victory is The Rock beating The Undertaker and Kurt Angle for the Undisputed Championship in a triple-threat match at Vengeance 2002. Seems like an odd match to pick.

The Rock's match with CM Punk at the Royal Rumble should be on the list, but isn't.

The Rock takes time out from saving the world to get a gallon of milk (video)

The Rock must have really needed a gallon of milk. The Brahma Bull's Super Bowl commercial is likely to be about as polarizing as victory over CM Punk at the Royal Rumble.

I really like the commercial. The Rock is at his likeable best. He's not calling the lion or bank robbers Twinkie tits. That's a plus.

Now if we could just get the new WWE Champion a movie deal to fight some aliens, all will be right with the world.

CM Punk's loss to The Rock was the worst part of the week for man shot in the eye during robbery

Thomas Dotterer was shot in the eye during a liquor store robbery. The 77-year-old high school basketball coach returned to work at the store in less than a week. That's remarkable. So is Dotterer's love of former WWE Champion CM Punk.

Even after getting shot and being in critical condition, Dotterer could still joke that the near-death experience wasn't the worst part of his week. It was Punk's loss to The Rock at the Royal Rumble.

"That's the worst thing that happened to me all week, the Rock beat Punk," Dotterer told WSYR TV news. "Did you know that?"

Yep, we did. Dotterer's story was so unreal that he caught the attention of the Second City Saint.

Tom Dotterer is amazing. He's got my respect. If he needs anything from me let me know. @jamesgaddis @heymanhustle

The Rock isn't the first WWE star to appear in a Got Milk? ad.
Oh, hell yeah. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin traded in his beers for a cup of moo juice.

The rivalry lives on.

John Cena challenges the WWE Champion to a match at WrestleMania XXIX (video)

Royal Rumble winner John Cena challenged The Rock or CM Punk to a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania XXIX. I fully expect Cena to meet The Rock in a rematch of WrestleMania XXVIII. It's the biggest money match WWE can promote.

After making the announcement on Raw, the Shield attacked Cena and fended off a save by Sheamus and Ryback. Looks like the Shield may be meeting Cena, Ryback and Sheamus at the Elimination Chamber.

The Rock and CM Punk rematch likely for Elimination Chamber (video)

The Rock and CM Punk are likely to meet in a rematch of their Royal Rumble championship match at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view on February 17.

That's the plan, according to the Wrestling Observer. The Rock and Punk had a big fight feel at the Rumble. Punk has a legit gripe that no one could see who attacked The Rock. Was it really the Shield? Brad Maddox? Brock Lesnar? Michael Cole claimed that it was the Shield, but no one could see. I fully expect Punk to invoke his rematch clause at the Elimination Chamber.

John Cena sets stage for WrestleMania rematch with The Rock

John Cena's post-Royal Rumble interview didn't involve any cornball comedy. The ex-Champ was focused, saying he'd dwelled on his loss to The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII and now he's ready to whoop ass.

The Rock-Cena rematch seems like a foregone conclusion at this point. And it's the best option for making piles and piles of money. That's what WWE is in business to do.

Meanwhile, CM Punk is likely get a rematch at the Elimination Chamber. Everybody comes out a bigger star after this -- at least that's the hope.
