Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter broke character to call out Glenn Beck for labeling WWE "stupid wrestling people." Beck went on the offensive recently, blasting WWE for portraying the Tea Party as villains in a storyline with Alberto Del Rio.
"Glen Beck, you recently referred to WWE as stupid wrestling people," Colter said. "Really, Glenn? Seriously, really? By implication, you are referring to the 14 million stupid wrestling fans who are watching our shows every week in America and our global audience in over 145 countries."
Colter went on to explain what an antagonist and a protagonist are and invite the ultra-right conservative to this Monday's Raw.
"Many of your followers are WWE fans and they understand the difference between reality and entertainment," Colter said. "Are you out of touch with your audience, Glenn? Or are you just a stupid political commentator. Mr. Beck, we cordially invite you to Monday Night Raw in Dallas at the American Airlines Center where you can deliver a five-minute, unedited rebuttal to our global TV audience and a sold out crowd of over 12,000 stupid wrestling fans. So now let's get back in character."
Beck has since declined, saying, “Unfortunately I am currently booked doing anything else.”
WWE pulled the first video of Colter and Swagger cutting and promo, breaking kayfabe, giving their real names -- Wayne Keown and Jake Hager -- and ripping Beck.
Here's a shorter version of the first video.
Both videos are pretty remarkable. First, that WWE would have Colter and Swagger admit they're playing characters. Second, that Swagger's push in the angle continues after his arrest following the SmackDown tapings for DUI and marijuana possession. A really dumb move by Swagger, but this seems to indicate that the company is moving forward with his push. It's the best outcome for Swagger and the company given the national media attention the angle has garnered.
