WWE is paying tribute to Paul Bearer all night on Raw with classic video footage. The show started with a tribute video (watch it after the jump), and The Undertaker coming out and kneeling to the urn in the center of the ring.
The in-ring tribute was interrupted by CM Punk, who told the Phenom that he'd always be a perfect 20-0 to Bearer, but four weeks from now, he'd be mourning his first WrestleMania loss. Taker has yet to say a word, but he looked suitably enraged by Punk's antics.
This was all pretty tame considering WWE's history of using real-life tragedy (Eddie Guerrero) in tasteless story lines. Punk got over as a self-important jerk that people want to see get his comeuppance. And it's not like Punk and Paul Heyman came out dressed as Taker and Bearer, which sounds like something that would have happened in the past.
The promotion is treating Bearer (real name William Moody) and his death with reverence. The next step should be announcing him as the newest inductee to the WWE Hall of Fame.
