Bully Ray had a busy Sunday night, revealing himself as the president of Aces & Eights and winning the TNA World Championship from Jeff Hardy in a match that never really made sense. Two babyfaces fighting in a steel cage after spending a week praising each other? Can't wait to see them fight!
The match was overbooked with an early run-in by Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco. Why would Bully attack his minions, who were beating down Hardy, only to turn later in the match? The run-in served no purpose other than making Bischoff and Brisco look like jobbers. Not a great decision since Brisco was given a cheap win over Kurt Angle.
Later, Brooke and Hulk Hogan came out to cheer on Bully. Then the other Aces & Eights, mostly the ones who lost a 10-man tag match to a team led by Sting, scaled the cage. Hardy and Bully stood back-to-back to fight off the invaders. But Devon Dudley tossed a hammer to Bully, who turned around and knocked out Hardy. The reunited Dudleys celebrated, and then Bully pinned Hardy to take the title.
The post-match saw Bully get on the mic and tell the Hogans: "Hulk, I used you. And Brooke, I screwed you." This got a lot of heat, and fans (and I wonder if some were planted by TNA to toss trash) bombed the ring with cups and garbage -- a scene meant to recall the formation of the nWo at Bash at the Beach '96. Even if they were planted, the visual was the only success.
Prior to Bully's win, the biker gang was made to look weak (the previous two member reveals are guys who can't or choose not to wrestle anymore). And we still don't know what A&E is trying to achieve. Take over TNA? Why? At least the group ends the night with a strong leader.
