Back in the '90s, I was a Torch subscriber. One of the columnists laid out a blueprint for turning the unpredictability of the 30-man, over-the-top battle royal into a lottery. Here's how to do it:
- Cut up pieces of paper and number them one through 30. Doing names of wrestlers won't work. First, we don't know everyone in the match. Second, drawing John Cena's name takes a lot of the mystery (and fun) out of the draw. Drawing No. 13 and not knowing whether you just picked Randy Orton or Epico is much more fun.
- Fold them up and put them in a bowl.
- Sell the numbers for a dollar a piece (or however much you want).
- In the past, I've paid out $25 for the winner and $5 for the first person eliminated. You could mix it up and pay out to the person with the wrestler eliminated the fastest or the wrestler who eliminates the most guys. One year, I gave away a DDP shirt to the fastest eliminated.
